Trip to Sydney

Almost 2 months have past since my last post… time to let you guys know what I have been up to and that I am still alive!

My brother has arrived safely back in Germany several weeks ago, now he is job hunting; shouldn’t be too hard to find something as an IT engineer.

Last month I had the chance to meet another good friend from my German hometown Furtwangen in Melbourne; had not seen him in like 5 years, so it was really good to catch up!
Michael also brought along my new digital camera (Canon PowerShot A520), which I ordered from a German retailer as it was cheaper there then anywhere in Australia (not even Ebay could beat the price!). It’s definitely an improvement (smaller, more zoom, SD-Card instead of CF, more MP) to my old PowerShot A70 which gave up last July. The movie function is still the same crap (15 fps, records 30s max. , fixed zoom & exposure from 1st frame), it only got updated in the new PS A700 which I discovered in a shop recently. That model seems to be a major improvement of the A Series with 6x zoom, enhanced movie function, less clutter with the picture taking modes, etc.
Oh well, I got a working camera now and couldn’t afford the A700 anyway.

Otherwise the 2006 Commonwealth Games are worth a mention. For ten days in late March athletes from over 130 Commonwealth nations competed in a broad range of sports; with the Games came the Melbourne Festival with events everyday all over the place.
I didn’t get to see nearly as much of it as I would have liked to; still, I had a great time. Especially experiencing the Opening Ceremony live on Federation Square and along the shore of the Yarra River was really awesome… what an amazing show…and the fireworks! I took a few hundred photos that night, will post some of them at some point. First I have to shift more of my old Asia photos to my Gallery Archives to free enough space… I am still over the quota - don’t want my provider to cut me off. So please be patient!

Okay, time for me to get packed. I should hit the road before the weather turns bad again… had enough rain in the last days. Hitching from a major city is one thing but doing it in the rain isn’t fun.

It’ll probably take me more than a day to get to Sydney, so I really hope it won’t rain tonight, in case I end up sleeping on the roadside - without a tent.

A week in Sydney, then probably around the coast back to Melbourne. After that it’s definitely time to improve my financial situation.
So long…
